Happy Birthday: Modern Reject Turns One

Somehow, this same time last year, I was mapping out how I would start a blog. I came up with the name “Modern Reject” while enjoying some coffee-flavored gelato on date night with my hubster.

He thought it was the perfect name. I agreed. Suddenly, something I had been so resistant, too, was becoming something I was daydreaming about doing. I set to work and began writing 10 posts, so as to have a mini-collection of work on my blog come launch day.

I sent emails to all of my friends and family (including my husband’s friends and family) telling them I was about to start a blog. I prayed…a lot. And, on May 17th of 2010, Modern Reject opened its doors. The last year has been amazing, grueling, torturous, and kick-ass.

Favorite (Blog) Things

This was a record awesome week, (heck, so was the whole month of March) on Modern Reject, so thank you. I found myself extra busy this week, too, but I’ve decided to retire from blogging. That’s right, I’m packing my bags and moving on. I don’t want to leave you high and dry, so here are some additional blogs for you to read and love.

Blogging can really suck sometimes and I’m still new at it. There are many times when I think, “What am I doing? Why am I doing this? I could be doing some major online shopping right now.”

Fireworks and Unicorns, Rainbows and Cupcakes: My 6 Month Blogiversary

Today is Modern Reject’s 6th month blogiversary. Can you believe she is that old already? It seems like just yesterday that she took her first few wobbly steps. Soon, though, she was off and running, although still tripping and falling flat on her face along the way (yes, this analogy is really about me, okay?). So, today I want to celebrate, and I plan to do so in a few different ways.

First, I share some stats on Modern Reject’s growth (if you like that kind of stuff) below and give some big thanks!
Second, I am giving out the coveted Reject Awards. See if you are a lucky winner.
Last, but not least, there is a survey, asking you what you like, love, or just can’t stand about Modern Reject. If you read nothing else, please take time to participate in the survey (do I sound like I’m in telesales?). It will really help me know what I’m doing well and what I’m sucking at–and hey, that’s important.

Favorite (Blog) Things

Do you remember when you first heard the word “blog’? I can vaguely remember. Someone was discussing politics (one of my favorite pastimes) and I kept hearing them refer to a particular blog. I didn’t want to ask. I had heard the word before but I wasn’t sure what a “blog” actually was. Weeks later, I started hearing words like “blogosphere”. It was all very confusing.

Here I am, years later, with a blog of my own. I started Modern Reject reluctantly, but now I am fully invested. I love writing here every day and having conversations with all of you.

For those of you who might be new around here, every Friday I share my Favorite Things, which can really be anything that floats my boat. Since Modern Reject just launched with its sleek and pretty new design just last week, I thought, in honor of my new blog design, I would share my Favorite (Blog) Things.
